| This was another good day out following England
to a different ground, and especially nice to be only a few miles down
the road for once! I had to work in
Kingston, but managed to get out by 4.30 so was settled into the
Avondale pub in central Southampton just after 6pm. The place was fairly
full of England fans and sadly we saw Turkey score 3 early goals against
Liechtenstein.
We left the pub at 7.15 and it was just a 20
minute walk to the St Mary’s Stadium. It is so much better when new
grounds are built in a city centre rather than stuck out on the
outskirts. The ground was very impressive and our view half way back
behind the goal in the Chappel stand was superb.
As for the match, Brighton type defensive errors,
2 great goals and how many missed chances? I thought we deserved to win,
but the Macedonian number 10 was my MOTM by a long way.
After the game it was back on a bus to the park and ride where my mate
parked, and a very quick route back to the M27 and I was back in time to
catch the highlights programme at 11.40!
Highlight of the match - the large tattooed Pompey
fan with his bugle and bell who loved sitting in his rivals ground
proudly supporting his country wearing a Pompey hat and shirt, which
when removed revealed many Pompey tattoos!
