Kazakhstan v England 2010 World Cup Qualifier, Venue Almaty or Astana
With more speedy
progress of the new 30,000 seater stadium in the Kazak capital Astana, since the
World Cup draw, it is now unclear whether England's qualifier will be played in
Almaty or at the new stadium. In an attempt to give you more information than
the one photo and paragraph on the official englandfans site!, we bunged a local
a few dollars to go along to hitch a ride to get some new pics of the stadium so we can all see how it
is progressing.
All we ask is that you
please do not copy and paste this article onto the englandfans forum. You
are welcome to copy and paste a hyperlink to this page but this site
is free of charge relying on visitors like you to fund its cost, that way it
stays free, thanks.

The
as yet apparently unnamed stadium is clearly coming along but it will not be
complete by its original date of end July 2008. On completion the finished
stadium pictured left complete with sliding roof will have its own
on-site 100 bedroom hotel. The stadium will be used as a multifunctional
entertainment complex for different sports and gathering purposes, so may
well be laid with an artificial pitch, but it is mainly programmed for
football to a standard fitting FIFA and UEFA criteria. A two-tiered ground
with exclusive areas, the lower tier will have a 16,000 seating capacity
situated at all four sides and the upper tier, a 14,000 seating capacity on
the east and west sides only. There will be 24 entrances and exits for
spectators. When the roof is closed the arena will be heated or
air-conditioned, useful for those hot summers and bitter winters.
